74 Yamaha MX250 followed me home

I have no idea why, but I got this old MX today. Fairly complete, missing the throttle, gas cap, front number plate, and stock silencer. Has low compression, but does have good spark. Looks to be on the original Dunlop Sports SR tires, of course they are roached as is the air filter. If someone out there needs this worse than me, pm me, otherwise who knows how long it will sit in my basement. IMG_0672.jpgIMG_0673.jpgIMG_0677.jpgIMG_0676.jpgIMG_0675.jpg

So Old Yeller hasn't found a new home? Not your AMA vintage ride? What's the story behind this one?

It's a little too vintage for me, I rode 74's when they were new, have no desire to do it again. Cales found this thing, I guess I just got caught up in trying to rescue it. Hopefully, I can find it a better home, someone who wants a restoration project.

Guys........ It's too damn early in the morning for me to be wrestling with starry-eyed temptations.

But,..... That could be my vintage Cross Country/GP bike. Brother to Poor Tom?........hmmmmmmmm........

What are you talking about NQ? I always come out ahead on my rebuilds. I just add up my expenses and time and come up with a total. It really works trust me- you just have to set your hourly rate at -$20 hour.

Good for you for the save. You are just spoiled by great brakes and suspension.

But these old MX Yamahas turn like they are on rails. rps20130518_213218.jpg And are plenty of fun to ride.

:) minus 20.... I like that.
Have to figure how to use that logic on the wife.

I usually just compare the cost against some other ridiculously expensive hobby that other wives have to contend with in their husbands. "See honey....We're really coming out ahead on this deal" :)

One last shot, if someone wants this MX for $800 through this weekend it's available, if not, I guess I have a project.

ooooh... a 360. Nice!
Me thinks we need more Yamaha MX's on the gates. Great bikes and they can hold their own against rival machines when well built and raced hard.

Had a blast on mine last summer, and can't wait to race it again.
