Isn't the play in the caliper and swing arm irrelevant? The axle holds the caliper in position and the swing arm just keeps it from rotating. Once the brake is used the caliper buts up to the swing arm stop.

Well this is just an opinion from someone who never raced when younger, but your asking for motocross tracks to have a class for trail Bikes! Why not just go there and sign up for what class your bike fits best in, and tell him to have fun and see if he likes it. If he likes it start looking for...

My son, Christopher had his first race at Western Reserve MXGP last weekend. That race was perfect for the first one. Had a little bit of everything in it, everyone spreads out pretty well, and he ran to 40min motos.
