Basically like Sharc said it is old school, high speed and not too jumpy, alot of natural terrain. They normally have open practice Saturday then race Sunday. That may help with the 3 hour drive.

You forgot the biggest thing, combining the 2 coast would mean 1 less championship for the factories to fight for. Championships mean money, I don't see the factories wanting to reduce the odds of winning one

I just posted delta has practice this Sat for you Hershey. I am not affiliated with delta( although I have shared a cold one with the decision makers)but like what they are doing and wish them success.
