It must have been about 10 years since I’ve been to Pleasure Valley.
Since then route33 has been improved greatly and PV has changed and yet still stayed much the same.
The 3.5 hr drive was easy. We took 76 to the PA turnpike to Rt. 33.
We pulled in to PV with sunny sky’s just before 6 and found the track was dry and they were watering and tilling so we spoke with the wrist-band man, asking about the forecast. He says “well, not sure… but they’ll water regardless because if it doesn’t rain…well, they’ll be in trouble.”
All the Sat. racing had been done for a while and sign-up closed so we filled up the water and found Randy’s rig.
We had a good time walking the track watching the 3 dozers, the water truck and talking about how nice it will be tomorrow.
PV is big and fast. Lots of elevation change, almost constant. It has big jumps, multiple jumps and a harder base than I remember. Some of the deep, wood chip, soft stuff is still there but only in a few sections. It winds up the far hill more than before and has been 4-stroke-n-ised a bit to flow better. The sky coaster is now a muscle through rhythm section.
We had cloudy sky’s in the AM and the track was wet but raceable. Vet’s were up 5 practice but I somehow missed getting it. I watched about 3 laps before it made sense that I was WAS watching vet practice. I got 1 lap in before getting flagged off. Made it out for late practice and got a few of the jumps dialed. Sky coaster not included.
First motos were good with only a little sprinkle here and there. Second moto’s were miserable. The temps were dropping, a wind picked up and a steady drizzle came down. The track turned into a slippery yet sticky clay rollercoaster up and down the hills.
Saw a couple guys eat-crap pretty hard in the slick stuff…you had to keep speed for the jumps, but if you got side-ways going that fast, s**t got sketchy pretty quick.
Everyone rode well. All in one piece. Good times, good crew.
Getting out on the track at the right time wasn’t possible though …ha!
I never did get the Sky coaster clean, I want to go back under better conditions.
