Went to OIR for a practice and had to contend with a bunch of circus trick lips on jumps

Maybe I'm just old and cranky. But the above link has some nuggets of truth.
And I'm sure of this nugget from the local track level - build a bunch of
circus trick jumps and kids will try the trick. I only saw one carted away
this week but could name some kids that won't walk again because that lip
or that pile of dirt in the middle of a perfectly good motocross track
meant that they had to try it.
 
Ok the guy is a dick. And you can bet it will be tried in the US if the overlords of American mx sees more money in his future. But the answer to this is crazy simple. DON'T RACE. Did I miss something? He does not own motocross. All it takes is a group of track owners to ban together and create a new series. Then offer big money to the riders. Where the big money is, you will find a bunch of riders. Where there is a bunch of riders, the sponsors will soon follow. If big sponsors are there, tv will follow like the whores they are.
Now, it seams that I have heard of a group of promoters getting together.... can't remember...
Riders have long been slaves to the organization's such as the FIM and MX Sports. It is easy to manipulate young men that really would race for nothing just based on the love of the sport. Much like in the big stick and ball sports, the way that is corrected is by having an organization for the riders, by the riders. Those organizations are ALWAYS lead by ex-participants and always and only have the betterment of the rider in mind.
I refuse to use the "U" word. Often times they have negative connotation around their agenda. I prefer the term affiliation. Without the riders standing up for themselves, big business will continue to mow down the sport WE love.
20 years ago this exact thing happens in the Indy car series. The leadership wanted to make big changes to increase there market share. One wanting to expand into larger population centers around the world and using crazy expensive equipment. The other wanting to stick more to there roots and improve the product of racing. It took some time but the good side won that war also.
Without a doubt, you have to welcome change if you want to grow. But if the changes are to the very foundations of the sport, do we really need it? If so, just try another sport. How is that supermoto thing going for them?

The problem is, he DOES own motocross, at least on the international level. The FIM sold
him the rights.

Does that mean anybody else could organize a series of their own? Sure they could.
But I bet nobody will. It's a huge investment and a huge risk. All the national series,
AMA included, are members of the FIM. Somebody starting from scratch has a
gigantic job on their hands.
 
I personally didnt see anything wrong with teh lips at OIR. A few could have been bigger thats about it. Otherwise its a perfectly fine motocross track

Motocross is dying. It will soon be "indoor supercross" and "Outdoor supercross" with narrow tracks to force arenacross type passes.

Sturd does a fine Job of making you think about the other side of any argument you're passionate about. Plus from what I hear from his curly haired in law sturd loves to get people riled up on politics. Holiday dinners must be fantastic.
