" sportsman class "

So I'm taking my son to the qualifier at briarcliff this weekend and was considering running a class or two myself. I understand the +40 means, but I see there's a new +45 Sportsmens class… Can someone elaborate please? Thanks

I believe "Sportsman" basically means no one that ever earned a point in National motocross or SX is no eligible for the Sportsman class.

Atleast they're trying to seperate ex pro superstars from the joe schmoes....can't expect pros not to want to race high level competition after they retire.

It's an amateur event..

Getting rid of a few 65 , 80 and limited classes and add a few vet b/c classes would make a lot of people happy.

That's always been my point. The name says it all. Amateur. If you were a pro, sorry your not an amateur.

Many people agree, honestly Id like to see that too. The point to remember though is the event is geared towards the up and coming amateurs, the guys trying to make a name for themselves. Us vet guys had our day, we arent doing anything but trying to have fun now!

Lorettas is all about the money now. No different than Daytona. They expand classes. Add classes. Charge more for gate entry, make you pay for a day No one stays for.....all for the $$$$ but we continue to pay it.

Exactly.. So why worry about the guys that had their time in the limelight even though it was 21st and back. Ricky Renner revived his career because of LLs and does nothing for the sport. He buys no bikes, tires, gear or any parts what so ever. Us vet guys are the money. Most of us buy new bikes on a regular basis, have the latest gear we buy with our own money and usually a lot of trick parts that we don't need on our bikes.

So tell me why we shouldn't get catered to every once in a while?

So where are those guys supposed to race after retirement? They're itching to race again and qualifiers/ regionals and lorettas are the only place that offers them competition to race.

How about the Racer X vet series. Glen Helen vet national. There is another vet series that one guy used to post about. Sorry, they are not amateurs.

I agree with you John..
They could trim a few classes and add a few. Or just add a few, another 6 motos wouldn't kill them. There are way too many youth classes that overlap each and a lot that make no sense what so ever.

If the event is so much about the up and comers, get rid of all C and women's classes. I can only think of 3 riders in the history of LLs becoming anything that raced C class Mcgrath, Dowd and maybe Axel Hodges( mostly because of his brother) . Women's mx is all but dead on a pro level.

All the vet classes should be removed from LL. 25+ and older.
Vets do deserve to be catered to and I am very surprised that no one has jumps on this and really pushed it. The vet fest thing SHOULD be national championship event / series.
Think of all the great sponsors the even could get:
25+ brought to you by One Hung low divorce attorneys.
30+ Icy Hot patches
40+ Hamm's Beer
50+ Viagra

I would agree, eliminate vet classes and follow one of the great vet events that are in play.

Many conflicts with racing dads though, with kids going for LL's. I will be shutting down anything LL's after this year for me. (vet classes)
