Omega Neck Brace

I got one at the end of the season last year. So far I like it. I got the newest version that doesn't stick up in the back so it's not as restrictive and I can get my head up. So far so good.

They look like they redistribute force to a bigger area than the leatt. A little more complicated to set up, but I think a better option for neck protection.

i was going to buy a leatt brace for my son and i, but after hearing about the injurys to riders wearing them... im on the fence now. is this omega brace a safer set up than the leatt??

I dont know if they're not safe. I was just stating in another thread wishes for more research on the subject. It's a personal decision that each rider should make for themselves wisely.

There are no statistics saying that less people are injured due to wearing a Leatt, nor are there any that say there aren't any more injuries...

I have the omega and I really like it. I had a leatt and it broke my collarbone requiring surgey. After recovery I tried on my leatt and the pain was terrible right where the brace sat on my collarbone. That proved to me thats what was the caues of the break.

With the Omega, the wide strap that sits on your collarbone is much more comfortable and like georgie said it distributes energy over a much greater area.

I endo'd at Ram Jam a few years ago and upon landing I could feel my Leatt push into and separate my AC joint. One of the most painful experiences I've ever had.

I have the omega neckbrace. I got mine when we raced at Unadilla in NY. It's design is set after the Hans device that it used in NASCAR and other forms of auto racing. I had the leatt prior but it was very restrictive and always felt bulky to me. I know some other people who have also gotten it and really like it as well. I think Leatt and Omega are both excellent neck braces but prefer the Omega. For safety I don't think you can go wrong with either brace but I would stay away from any of the others.

I got a Leatt and couldn't make it fit me- I'm too big in the chest and neck for them. The Omega works well for me, and worked with my Fox Airframe, as well as the new HRP my wife bought for me. I don't even have to open the side of the chest protector, it slips down over the Omega with just a very little work. I'm VERY pleased and the price was right.

Do you wear a Leatt still or something else ?

I don't use any neck braces, your neck is the only part of your body that is essentially made to hyperextend. So I'm depending on gods good creation by hyperextension to dissipate the force. That's my decision, with my own research. Don't take my word for your decision, take your own.

Alpinestar Bionic Neck Support

Dan, After personally witnessing that crash at Meadowlarks on that new triple in the back when the kid cartwheeled after landing on his head, the brace destroyed itself and the rider received no head or neck injuries only concussed and a broken leg. I am not saying that the Alpinestar is any better but it is also worth considering. The Omega is a nice brace. You need to try them on and see which one fits you the best and go from there.

My husband has the Omega and loves it. The girls and I have the Leatt and he didn't really care for it. He has tried it and couldn't look down, but after his crash at OIR we went to Kames to try them all on. The Alpinestar one seemed to fit, but when he put a helmet on he could put his neck as far back as it would go and it never touched the brace. He put the Omega on and seemed to like it with a helmet on. The guys at Kames helped him get it fitted and he wears it all the time with no complaints.

I like the open neck concept of the Omega. I had the EVS and hated it. It choked the hell out of me. The EVS is good if you have a neck :).

Broke my collarbone first crash with a leatt. Not sure if i should blame the leatt or not.

I guess a good test would be to put it on and see if it hurts where the leatt sits.. will try that tonight.

I hit pretty hard on my head. Broke part of my helmet and got knocked out. So its hard to say that maybe the Leatt helped me and my neck would be messed up right now if I didnt, or maybe i woulda been fine and not have a broken collarbone now too.. idk

its a tough call. im not sure if i want to keep wearing it or not, 1 crash and 1 broken bone is not a good record so far.

So what was the outcome of you trying the neck brace on post injury?

just posted that today - will try tonight when i get home.

my whole side of my chest is sitlll bruised. assuming thats from all of the force of the leatt on it. still sore if i press down on it too. broke collarbone 4 times now and never had my whole chest sore like that.

small price to pay to keep my neck in good shape, but man idk if i wana be breaking collarbones everytime i crash. who knows though. i broke it 3 times without a leatt.. so clearly the leatt wasnt to blame then lol. i must have crappy collarbones.

Sounds like me, Dan. I have no neck, and that gave me problems with both the EVS and the Leatt while trying to make them fit. I had no issues with the Omega, and am still pleased. 18.5" neck,(what there is of it) btw.

I think wear whatever your comfortable with.....but I believe your better off with any of them than with nothing.

tried it on but couldnt really notice any pain when i was pressing down on the leatt. if the leatt moved though to that side then it could have been from it. i wear it under my chest protector so it keeps it pretty well in place, but no straps. so its possible it moved a bit when i crashed.. or it could have just been the fact that i went face/chest first into a wall just about
