bike locked up and wont shift into 3rd gear, any ideas what it could be?

If you lock up the motor, that doesn't interfere with the transmission. you could pull in the clutch and shift gears all day? Please explain? What would that have to do with not being able to shift past 3rd gear??? Just curious.

If the motor is locked up tight, you may very well not be able to shift into certain gears. Its like when you are sitting still, and have to rock your bike back and forth to shift into certain gears, to align "tab A with slot B". I would suspect that new top end, but follow Hershey's instructions on isolating the crank assy from the gear box.
