Well now it wouldnt be a pitracer thread if I didnt chime in to stir the pot.
We all need a place to ride, there is always a good quad & bike coexist thread going on at some point or another. We may never agree with what each group wants but so be it. Having quads on the track at the same time as bikes only happens at certain open practice tracks. Other than that you wont see them mixed at a motocross track, they dont race at the same time on staggered gates, they arent mixed together by engine size or rider classification with bikes. There is a good reason for this, they dont mix. If you have ever been on a track at the same time it takes getting used to, and for some riders it is very intimidating. But add in an extra 1000 lbs and another 700cc of motor and you are just asking for trouble.
Im sorry if people may not agree but I can see absolutely no good reason to defend the use of this machine on the track at anytime there are bikes. Safety should NEVER be side stepped for any reason. Good safe driver or what ever. That video of him jumping sure didnt look all that controlled to me! Imagine if someone you knew, or worse you or your child, were ACCIDENTALLY run over by this type of machine. Would it be ok then? That type of machine just doesnt belong with bikes, the bike will lose that battle every single time.
How about we just ride with rally cars too? I mean really what is the difference? A few more pounds and a couple extra horsepower?
I agree that I would have not let my kids on the track at the same time, I would have gotten them off immediately. But what are you paying for when going to BC to ride the C track? Time to sit while SXS riding is going on? Where does it end? It is a big deal, very big. A 1000 lb machine will kill a bike rider in an accident very easily. Im amazed it seems to be so light heartedly taken.
