I truly believe the brick and mortar joints are the backbone of this sport. Can you physically try a set of gear, check out the a pair of goggles, boots and knee braces to see how the fit or feel. I don't think you can buy a bike online, heck in most cases they have same day delivery on parts all you do is go in and pay for them. This is why I support my local shop.

E Bay & Amazon for 80% takes 30 sec. two days later its on the front porch with no shipping cost or sales tax. Irony Pony is local to me so good for incidental purchases, they used to have more mark down (and more MX) deals but have reallocated most of their floor space to new bike sales. But a good source for "SHOWROOMING" and you get lucky occasionally on deals.
Probably a bit different for Vintage guys, EBay is the only good source for many obsolete parts, its amazing what exists out there

Hard to answer the poll straight up.

If I need or want an OEM part, I'll buy online. Rocky Mountain, Bike Bandit, ebay, or wherever I can get it if it's a hard to find part.

I don't think I've ever bought riding gear online. Most from Iron Pony. It helps to be able to try it on first for fit and to make sure it doesn't make my ass look too big. :D

I live right next to Summit Racing so I get all my oils (lucas) from them, but as far as bike parts/ riding gear, I always look at rocky mountain first because they're shipping is always on point

Yea the giant eagle bakery is great. Rocky Mountain kills it with the shipping. If you break on Thursday. You can race Saturday. Even my shop sometimes can't do that. But north ridge had my cases split and rebuilt in 2 days for battle for Ohio round. Never wanna burn your local shop cuz they got the extra mile to get you racing again.

Someone said the local to try stuff on, etc. The local shop usually only carries the low end gear and not the stuff I want. Rocky Mountain is just killing it. To give me $110 three weeks after I make a purchase is awesome! I had already got a great deal on the helmet on closeout and boom, they lower price and send me a email you have $110 in your account.

Iron Pony has LOTS of stuff to try on. Lots.
