Coil and CDI compatibility question - 1984 YZ250

The primary resistance in the coil on my 1984 YZ250 tests bad. I believe the CDI is OK.

PVL's kit lists the same part number for 1979-1998 YZs. Does this mean OEM coils are interchangeable for those years? The same question for CDIs.

Trying to decide if I should go with a PVL kit or find compatible OEM parts. A little reluctant to buy generic coils or 34 year old parts.

Stick with your Kawasaki’s, Dano.

I think all that means is the crank taper is the same between all those years, not the components. A PVL is a stand alone system which is why one size fits all. I always go with OEM components, if possible, they’re pretty damn reliable.

FWIW I once had a 1981 YZ125 with a bad secondary coil. I used one off some year YZ80 and it worked perfectly.
