Anybody ever done any plastic welding?

I have a discontinued ABS plastic street bike fairing with a couple of cracks in it. I was thinking about having it plastic welded? Anyone do it, or know anything about it? Any good kits I could practice with? --L*64
 
I used to use a soldering gun to melt plastics back together that had cracked. Held up ok.
 
I had a leak in a KX80 tank and tried the soldering gun and then went to melting a zip tie. It held up for a while but ended up getting a replacement tank.
 
I picked up a cheap kit from Harbor Freight. That I welded my kayak with and also my friends kayak I would say it holds up well... I have a paddle that I plastic welded about 4 years ago that I am still using and is still holding up..
 
So the cheapo Harbor Freight setup actually works ok? I might as well try it. It's not as good as welding metal I guess. --L*64
