I only used the tank and shrouds as the rest looks similar to the new style.

Immediately after I asked you that, I looked at the kit and considered doing the same thing. I like the new style air box and number plates. I did the updated kit on my 05 125 and im getting ready to finish my 06 250. A black gas tank would look pretty cool though.

As a practical matter the black tank on the 250 here was the most difficult tank I have had to read the fuel level in. It's a glossy surface inside and the gas seems to disappear.

Made the trip to Louisville Motorcycle Performance this morning to pick up the new Jemco pipe and silencer for my 77 YZ250.

It looks pretty darn nice and fitment is spot on. I'll let you know how it runs when the weather warms up a bit.

Now the rest of the bike looks shabby.

What year ? That's crazy nice.
I rode green in 97 & 98 I think - loved em at the time.
Went to Loretta's while on green twice.
.....cue Scoob - in 1, 2, 3..

It is a 98. I think 97 minor changes were made. 98 was the final year for this generation KX.

This is an older photo. I actually have a Factory KHI cone pipe on it now with the OEM silencer. I put some silver renthals on it with a purple cloth bar pad cover. Other that that it's all stock.. I removed the OEM bridgestone front tire from it!
