Possible new Motocross track in Volusia County FL

When many local elected officials are trying to close down motocross tracks, there is one County Council Member in Volusia County trying to use tax dollars ($10 million) to bring one into Volusia County not too far from the Daytona Speedway. He has a son that races 85s. He mentions the millions that the county has pumped into things like pickleball. The track would have two tracks with a possibility of a third. Concessions, parts shop, restrooms, and RV hookups. This is one area, because of all the other motorsports events, where I think a public or public-private partnership could work. A motocross facility could even be used with the Jeep Beach Week events in April, thinking outside the box.

I met Don Dempsey, and let him know my background in Government and offered to assist him in any way he may need some assistance. They held a public informational meeting. It was absolutely packed. The county has probably spent $50k to $100k on consultants and feasibility studies. They have done their home work and planning for sure. The attendees at the meeting were probably 50/50 with Motocross people and residents. One resident that was around me at the story boards was so ridiculous. Everything he was saying was such an exaggeration it was funny. I finally spoke up to the guy. He said he had been around motorcycles his whole life, yada yada. I was in dress clothes from work, so he probably had no idea, I know a little something about motocross. The things he was saying was ridiculous.

Neighbors are concerned about property values. They live next to a dump! Noise, that track will not be as loud as I-95 right there. The guy from Moto Sandbox is interested in running the facility.

Should be interesting to see what kind of public input comes at the next meeting.

The Volusia County annual budget is $1.19 billion dollars.

Um…… when are you going to learn pickleball is way more profitable and exciting than moto? Not the old days homie! Liberals running g the country, college students protesting over things they have no knowledge about and a president who doesn’t know what day it is!!!!! Merica!!! Wtf is happening? TRUMP!!!!!! A revolution is coming!!!

Hey the government track charges $100. So now we all are charging $100

Florida in 5 years probably….

Thanks government. Remember anything the govt touches. Turns to go—-s**t.

So using land that is basically not usable for anything else next to a landfill is out. The neighbors complained about traffic and noise loud enough, and decreased property values. Now mind you they live on top of two busy roads, I-95 is louder than any motocross track. I watched the meeting, they are now looking at alternative sites. But if it goes beyond $10 million cost, a couple council members have said they will bail on the project.
