Question to fathers out there about helmets for kids

On a different note. Airoh was the one company you can't find any data on in regards to what technology or safety standards they pride themselves on. I called the company. Emailed the manufactures and searched the Internet. All I could find is how cool they were. How light they were. And how small they were.

That is interesting. We will have to wait for D. Smith to chime in as I bet he may have some info.

Would love to see it or hear it. I really wanted to buy one. But it was hard based on looks and how "light" it was. "Maximum safety" idk. Guess I expected more out of the technical data sheet from airoh!

Up until last year you could not even buy them in the states. they did not meet the standards as far safety in the states.
They are very light and if used properly very safe.

Hershey has data. Antonio cairoli wears one. Top guy in mxgp.

And Hershey knocked himself stupid and that helmet saved his melon. Surprised how well it held up too. Do you still wear that thing Hershey ?

How much you think he gets paid to wear that helmet? Hahaha. If the price is right I bet he would wear that watermelon from the previous post. Anyways. I'm sure their great. And I would probably own one if there was a little more supporting how great they are.

My soon to be 5 year daughter really wants to start ride this year. How do other parents fork over so much money to start?

I personally posted my thoughts above. I do not believe some of the lower dollar helmets are less safe. A lot of times, the higher dollar helmets are just lighter. Now the 6D, does use some different technology. But there is no way I am spending $600 on a helmet for a youth. For example the V2 I got my son was on sale, and I paid something like maybe $179 or something close to that for it. It is a quality helmet.

When my son was on a pw/crf we ran fly helmets, Boots , neck roll and a chest protector. Few hundred bucks got us started. As they go faster and grow you upgrade. If you ask around I would be willing to bet people have left over gear in good condition they will part with.

Special how fast the kids grow.

Yes Hershey still has his and a new one, I am sure he will chime in when he gets back from wearing it down south.

I need two this year the aviator is 600 bucks!

I wore a shoei for a long time. Switched to Arai about 5 years ago. I am thinking about going back to a Shoei, I seem to like their designs a little better, and just for a change. Plus there are some great deals online on a new Shoei. Anyone been wearing one lately? You like it? I really liked the fit of my Arai.

I always wore Shoei's growing up. I remember being at the bike shop (I was like 7 maybe) back in the days where helmets were basically plain colored and you had to get them custom painted if you wanted it to be cool....

Anyway I wanted some fancy painted looking helmet. My dad goes: "Nope, you're not wearing something that isn't dot and snell approved because it looks cool." He got me an all white Shoei and let me pick a bulldog sticker and he put that on it. So I was satisfied. Took alot of diggers as a kid and I thank god I wasn't wearing a VEGA or some cheap helmet. Of course I tihnk the high dollar shoei's in 1995 were about $200....Now they're $500+

My boy wears a plain white shoei. You can find them for 350.00 if you look. Use your rmatv 10% code and save even more. I don't care what it looks like. He is happy as well.

I don't think so? But it seems every few orders I place there they include a 10% off code at the bottom of the thank you email. I just noticed it this year but I guess they have been doing it for a while.

Kames has instinct boots for 249. Size 8 and 9. Great for kids. And reasonably priced. Also a ton of clearance helmets 50% off or more.

I'm pretty sure last time I was at kames they had a plain white shoei xs for under 350? And as far as Rocky Mountain goes. That's where I usually buy gear for the 2 of us and parts for the bikes. I'm pretty sure they send them out to a lot of people. It's literally tucked in at the bottom of the page with a bunch of other s**t. Easy to miss unless your looking for it.
