Boot tech/advice

Heres the deal, I sweat a lot, and my boots smell like straight up cat piss. I’m wearing Alpinestar tech 1’s at the moment and can’t get the smell out. I’ve tried various dish soaps, bleach solution, laundry soap odor eaters none of it works. Any tricks I do not know? Which boots have the removable booties? Will the booties keep the smell out if laundered regularly?

Spray lysol and febreze in them every day and flood the boots with soap and water.

I bought a pair used like that and couldn't get it all the way out but I got it to where your nose had to be in the boot to smell it

I think I’m going to upgrade and rig up a boot dryer. Local shop is giving me great deal on some tech7’s if I want them.

I spray liberally with Lysol. Non scented stuff. And stick on boot dryer. Crank the dial dial for 180-240 minutes and let her rip. My boot dryer cost $50.

I do this as well in the military. Keeps your boots neutral and no stank.

My feet sweat so bad in tennis shoes. Even my work shoes I hit with Lysol and place on the dryer daily after a shift.

Ive got this model. I put a pair of boots on top and tennis shoes on second rack. $35 can’t beat that. I paid $50 2 years ago. Well worth it. Getting more use out of shoes because they aren’t so nasty smelling.

Short story:
For my riding boots I use Lysol and a boot dryer and it helps.

HIGHLY recommend changing your socks. I noticed what makes the biggest difference is what type of sock you are wear (material). Throw any/every cotton sock in the trash or more specifically, your riding socks. All cotton does is hold in the moisture, doesn't allow your foot to breath, and allows bacteria to breed (partly the cause of stink). Look into Merino wool socks, specifically from Darn Tough. Life time warranty and they work. The higher the merino wool content the better. It is naturally anti-microbial which helps with the stink.

Long story:
I did a lot my own "testing" with different materials, cotton, "dri-fit," and merino wool, when I was planning for an elk hunt in 2015. I would hike or run 16-20 miles a week and my hiking involved 35-55lbs in my back pack. As a test, I wore one pair of my no cushion running socks 7 times before they ever started to even smell a little bit! I wore them hiking in Colorado, Wyoming, southern Ohio, hunting, running, every day socks, etc. I can't tell you how much I spent on them, but I have at least 15 pairs of merino wool socks now. And my shoes, boots, etc. do not stink.

On my hunts, I wore each pair of my hiking boot socks at least 3 times each and they did not stink after 4-8 miles each day in the mountains running and gunning.

You would think your foot would get hot in a wool sock, but they don't. Your foot is dry (which is odd for a high intensity sport). I highly recommend Darn Tough socks. I have tried FITS brand socks and they wore out in less than 2 years! Going on my 4th year with 5 pairs of wool socks (of which I wear at least 2 times a week) and they are in great shape. Sorry for the long post. Note I am not affiliate with Darn Tough socks, but I am a firm believer that wool is the way to go.

great point about the socks. silver impregnated socks are great too. the army standard issue socks are amazing. Jeffries are good too. $7 for 2 pair, and they come all the way to your calf...althought the issue socks do have 80% cotton.

also try superfeet insoles. The superfeet grey has merino wool layer. issued sock and wool layered sole, your feet are happy for hours. When I did land nav in texas, it was 90 degrees, out there for 8 hours in the hot beating sun, my feet were slightly damp by the end. not drenched, the sock wicked the moisture up. But my feet can get soaked at work with regular socks and shoes.

these are standard issue socks:

Theyre a lot cheaper on post at a PX, but if you don't know anyone in the army you can't get on post to get them.

I spent 16 years in military issue boots, Iraq, Afghan, Arizona never an issue. I’m going to douche these up good with a bunch of stuff and keep them around for spares. Time to pull the trigger on the Tech 7’s.

Tech 7 is my favorite Alpinestars boot. Never was a fan of the booties in the tech 10's. I'm a SIDI guy myself but wouldn't recommend them to anyone with wider than normal feet.
