Back to the 2 stroke!!!

So I did a thing this weekend. I traded my 2004 CRF250 for a clapped out 2004 CR125. The kid I traded with got the better end of the deal but I knew what I was getting into. But more than anything I’m excited to be back on a 2 stroke. Pretty excited to work on it and my son is hyped for a project. If anyone has any CR parts laying around I’m in the market. Pipe and silencer anyone?

Sounds good!!! Keep me posted.

That motor looks amazing. Might be a while till I get to that part but there is plenty to clean up till then.

I’ve seen his stuff. Amazing work!

I think the plan of attack with this bike is going to be a wheel by wheel bolt by bolt clean up. Start by tearing the back wheel, linkage and such apart. Clean and replace bearings and bolts. Then get the rear shock done. Then sprockets and chain. Then move to the front. Motor is last on the list. Just want a good solid rolling frame.

I want those black wheels and red hubs real bad tho.

Faster USA did mine - Black DID and their house brand red CNC hubs. Easy to work with.

looks like the pipe found its way to the scrap pile unfortunately

i did find a rear spring that also came with the 04 cr125 that i had, if you want it you can have it. couldn't find a part number on it. open offer to anyone really.

Appreciate you looking!!! As for the spring… stock just won’t do the trick. I need a heavy duty one hahahaha. Just not in that 150lb range any longer.

Been tearing into the CR over the past week. Got a lot done this weekend. And although it’s looked like a huge pile, the bike is actually in pretty good shape. It wasn’t taken care of very well but it wasn’t neglected for a long time. All the bearings are perfect. Everything moves freely and has grease. The rear wheel cleaned up nicely and the pipe wasnt to bad. They did put on the exhaust flange incorrect. Which could be a huge reason why it wasn’t running good. Travis from SRS is gonna do the rear shock soon and the parts will start coming in April. The wife will kill me if I spend 1k on parts.

Nice, Anxious to watch the progress.

I used Honda of Troy for some parts when I did my '01 CR125. I have used Service Honda also. I even bought an extra Cylinder for later.

I sold the original cylinder for like $125.00 and think it would have been tough to send out for service for the couple of hundred dollar difference. This is a current Honda of Troy listing for an 04 CR125.

Spouses and play purchases create interesting dynamics. After 36 years we have it down pretty good. For the most part she pretends not to notice. I keep my own smallish account for things I buy and she has the same. Every once in a while a friend tosses a wrench in the mix and says you must have a fortune tied up in old bikes - that gets her attention. Prices have gotten so out of whack lately that I have not done much buying since Covid.

More important where’s the slow mo trampoline videos ?

When I bought the bike it ran but the kid said the clutch cable “broke”. So upon tear down I started getting into the motor today. Cleaned up a lot of the grime. When I took the flywheel cover off I noticed the lever for the clutch had play in it. So I took the clutch cover off and found the real issue. They broke a bolt off in the clutch inner hub and they also cross threaded some of the other bolts. Doesn’t leave much faith in their “rebuild” but I’ll run it till it blows. So next is to order some new bolts and an inner clutch.
